How We Deliver

We get things done through three strands, regular volunteers, close partnership with Burnley Borough Council, and small grants/sponsorship.

Park Charter & Safeguarding Policy

Through community partnerships and joint ventures, we organise park events including the annual Ightenhill Festival and Carols in the Park.

Weekly volunteers (open to all)

Our crew tackles practical jobs most Wednesday mornings — light gardening, edging paths, litter-picking, planting, and small repairs.

What to expect

  • Friendly welcome and short safety brief

  • Tasks to suit different abilities; no experience needed

  • Tools and materials provided

What to bring

Sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and a drink/snack.

How to join

Check our Events page for the next session and sign up. You’ll also find listings on OutdoorTown and our social channels.

Safeguarding & safety

All sessions follow simple risk assessments; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Partnership with Burnley Borough Council (Green Spaces)

We work hand-in-hand with the Council’s Green Spaces team to prioritise jobs, coordinate permissions, and fit our efforts alongside planned maintenance.

How this works

  • Regular check-ins to agree priorities and timings

  • Clear permissions for improvements and repairs

  • Shared updates so residents know what’s happening

Report an issue

If you spot damage or something unsafe, please report it to Burnley Borough Council first, then let us know so we can support the follow-up.

Grants & supporters

Donations go further when combined with small community/environment grants and local sponsorship.

Where funding comes from

  • Community/environment funds (e.g., Lancashire Environmental Fund)

  • Local business sponsorship and in-kind support

  • Public donations and stall fees from events

What we use it for

  • Plants and materials

  • Small tools and repairs

  • Signage and accessibility tweaks

  • Match-funding for larger improvements

Transparency

We publish project updates and thanks in News & Reports, and we track simple measures like volunteer sessions, hours, fixes completed, and project phases delivered.

Ways to support

Sponsor a planter or bench, fund a batch of native plants, donate via Support Our Park, or talk to us about a corporate volunteering day.
