We’re proud of Ightenhill Park — and we work year-round with residents, Burnley Borough Council, police and local supporters to keep it welcoming, tidy and safe for everyone.
Here’s how we prevent problems, how we respond, and how you can help.
Our approach: prevent • respond • support
Prevent – visible, practical care deters damage
Weekly Volunteer Wednesdays: path-edging, litter-picking, light repairs and tidy-ups.
Clear signage and friendly reminders about sharing paths, keeping dogs under control and looking after play spaces.
Regular bench, play area and route checks so issues are spotted early.
Partnership working with Burnley Borough Council (Green Spaces) to align our efforts with planned maintenance.
Respond – quick fixes and clear reporting
We tackle small jobs fast (sweeps, minor touch-ups) and log bigger issues with the Council straight away.
For vandalism or anti-social behaviour, we share details with the Council and police where appropriate, and keep residents updated via News.
Community assets (like the Triangle Garden, pond and the little library) are rebuilt or refurbished with local support when needed.
Support – smart tools and clear information
A donated 4K CCTV system now protects key volunteer and storage areas (see our CCTV thanks post).
Simple risk assessments and a short safety brief at volunteer sessions.
A published Park Charter and Safeguarding Policy so expectations are clear for everyone.
Reporting issues (what to do)
Emergencies or crime in progress: call 999.
Non-emergency police matters: call 101.
Damage, maintenance or park issues: report to Burnley Borough Council via their website/contact centre (and copy us so we can support follow-up).
Tell us: email or message the Friends so we can coordinate volunteers, communicate updates, and help prevent repeat issues.
Recent actions

Community assets: ongoing care of the Triangle Garden and pond margins; library refurbishment after damage.
Security: CCTV installed to deter theft and vandalism around volunteer kit and containers.

How you can help
Join Volunteer Wednesdays (most weeks, 9.00–12.30) — all welcome, tools provided.
Report problems early — the sooner we know, the faster we can act.
Donate or sponsor materials (paint, timber, plants, signage) or a “Path/Bench Day”.
Be a great neighbour — take litter home if bins are full, and gently nudge good behaviour.
