The small wildlife pond in the Triangle Area is looking fantastic thanks to steady volunteer care and support from partners.
It’s fast becoming a favourite stop for families and a quiet corner for wildlife.
Here’s what’s changed and how you can help.
From idea to Oasis
What started as a tired, under-used corner is now a simple wildlife pond with native planting and seating, delivered by Friends volunteers with support from Burnley Borough Council’s Green Spaces team and local funders/sponsors. The pond sits alongside the Triangle Community Garden, creating a calm space for learning, nature and reflection.
What we’ve improved
Re-lined and reshaped the pond to hold water more reliably
Added native marginal plants for shelter and pollinators
Installed light fencing/edging to protect plants while they establish
Created access paths and a small viewing spot for families and school groups
Regular volunteer care – litter-nets, seasonal pruning and topping up planting
Nature returning
Even with modest planting, the pond is already alive with movement – pond-skaters, water beetles and visiting birds. As the margins thicken, we expect more insects and a better food source for the wider park. (Please keep dogs and feet out of the water so wildlife can settle.)

How we look after it
Seasonal checks: clearing windblown leaves/algae, trimming back overgrowth
Top-ups of native plants: to keep the margins dense and shade the water
Safety & signage: clear sightlines, tidy edges, and a friendly “look, don’t paddle” sign
What’s next
Add a simple interpretation panel about pond life and the Triangle Garden
Trial mini pond-dipping sessions at family events (supervised, equipment provided)
Continue building the planting palette for colour and habitat across the seasons
How you can help
Volunteer – light pond/garden care, no experience needed
Donate plants or materials – native marginals, coir rolls, child-safe signage
Sponsor a season – fund a small bundle of plants or a new sign (we’ll thank you on our channels)
