Small, steady TLC makes a big difference. Our volunteers edge paths, clear moss and litter, and work with Burnley Borough Council to keep the play areas looking cared-for and safe. Here’s what we’ve been up to and how you can help.
What we’ve done lately
Path care: regular edging along well-used routes, sweeping debris, and clearing moss at entrances after wet spells.
Sightlines & access: light pruning back from paths and benches so buggies, wheelchairs and walkers can pass comfortably.
Play area TLC: routine tidy-ups around equipment, reporting faults quickly to the Council and pitching in with minor cosmetics (e.g., paint touch-ups) where permitted.
Event readiness: quick pre-event checks so families arrive to clean, welcoming spaces.
Why it matters
Safety: fewer slip hazards and clearer sightlines.
Inclusion: smoother routes make visits easier for wheelchair users and families with prams.
Pride in place: cared-for paths and play zones deter damage and encourage everyday use.
Value for money: volunteer effort bridges the gap between major maintenance cycles.
Working with Burnley Borough Council
We coordinate with Green Spaces to prioritise jobs, get permissions for any fixes, and make sure our efforts complement scheduled maintenance. Where issues need specialist attention, we log them straight away so they can be made safe.
What’s next
Continue seasonal moss and leaf clearance across the main routes.
Support minor path edge repairs and tidy-ups after heavy weather.
Plan a play-area refresh day (with Council approval) to smarten railings and surfaces.
Explore small wayfinding touches near the Triangle Garden and event areas.
How you can help
Volunteer Wednesdays (most weeks, 9.00–12.30): no experience needed; tools provided.
Donate materials: exterior paint, timber edging boards, path-grit, brush heads, bolt caps.
Sponsor a “Path Day”: fund a bundle of supplies and we’ll shout your support on our channels.
See something? Report urgent safety issues to the Council first, then drop us a note so we can assist the follow-up.
